Overview

Our Mission is to increase access to community-grown food by empowering farmers and consumers alike, reconnecting people with agriculture for a healthier community, environment and economy. At TRACTOR, we prioritize environmentally, economically and socially non-extractive techniques for growing, procuring and distributing food. Our standard is to serve the same quality product to everyone, whether they are paying customers, a food pantry client, someone experiencing a diet-related illness, and so on. Our standard is to value people, health and happiness.

Major Programs

Food as Medicine:

  • Clinical Referral Program: TRACTOR Food & Farms fulfills food prescription vouchers through Farefield, our online food subscription service that accepts food prescription vouchers, SNAP/EBT and credit card purchases.  If you are interested in receiving a share, please contact your doctor or local health agency. If you are a health agency or medical office looking to make a referral, please contact TRACTOR.

  • Medicaid Healthy Opportunities Pilot: TRACTOR participates in North Carolina’s innovative health pilot project, which provides preventative care through healthy food boxes and produce prescriptions as part of Medicaid services to eligible Medicaid recipients.

Community Food Access

  • Healthy Harvest: The Healthy Harvest Program serves high-quality, nutritious and community-grown foods to food relief organizations and their clients across WNC. Our unique online wholesale ordering system allows partners to customize orders in real-time, greatly reducing or eliminating food waste. Food relief organizations may also make referrals on behalf of clients through Farefield.

Direct Sales

  • Farefield: a food subscription service for everyone in our community. Along with paid subscriptions, Farefield accepts referrals made through health organizations, doctors offices and relief agencies. We also accept SNAP/EBT and Double Up Food Bucks.

  • Wholesale: TRACTOR also procures and delivers like a traditional distributor, serving local restaurants, groceries, farms stands, food banks, and more.

Farmer Training

Increasing access to community-grown food would not be possible without our Farmers! Any farmer, grower or producer can sell through TRACTOR, but become a member and receive reduced rates on shared-use equipment, access to our 24-hour facility and much more. Our farmer services include
